A risk for security and the maritime economy
On 23 June 2025, the Federation of German Industries (BDI) published the position paper "Strengthening overall defence" with an overall view of security policy, raw material dependency and technology. In November 2024, the BDI had already analysed the dangerous dependencies of the German and European economy's raw materials supply against the backdrop of turbulent international developments at a raw materials congress in Berlin. The security risks lie in the impending loss of value chains (automotive industry) and the danger of political and strategic blackmail.
