The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) has been realising the rescue of human lives from distress at sea and dangerous situations in the German areas of the North Sea and Baltic Sea for 159 years.
"Sea Rescue Day" is held once a year on the last Sunday in July and each participating station offered its own programme on 28.07.2024.
At many locations, such as in Cuxhaven, sea rescue cruisers could be visited and observed during deployment and rescue exercises, such as the sea rescue cruiser "Hamburg" on Borkum.
Patient transports with sea rescue boats and, depending on availability, rescue helicopters were also demonstrated. Volunteer sea rescue workers presented themselves at information stands and were available to talk to visitors. Once again this year, more than 40,000 people took part in this important day of action.
