The MOS now resides in the Brommy barracks

The barracks complex in Bremerhaven has always been known simply as the "Naval School". For decades, the complex has been home to the "MOS", once a naval location school, now a naval operations school and thus one of two so-called functional schools of the navy. Now a legendary admiral has found his home here, the complex is now called Admiral Brommy Kaserne and is thus named after the first commander of a German navy.

We look back to the 19th century:

The revolutionary events of 1848, the founding of the Imperial Fleet - we know all about it. It is part of German naval history and has often been told and written down. There are many reasons why a barracks complex has now been named after several Brommy streets and squares, which were named on the festive day in Bremerhaven. "Admiral Brommy was the first commander-in-chief of the first, the very first German navy. This means that in 1849, the National Assembly of the time installed a navy that would prove its worth in the conflict with Denmark," said Ruth Schilling, Director of the German Maritime Museum at the ceremony in the Naval Operations School in Bremerhaven. "In this respect, I think it's actually good and important that his person is remembered for the beginnings of the German navy, which is otherwise completely overshadowed by the imperial era and also by the two world wars and the associated cultures of remembrance." In other words, remembrance of times that reflect the origins of German democracies. The Ministry of Defence gave its approval, and the minister is said to have personally signed off on it. With all the discussions about the naming of barracks, squares, bridges and piers, hopefully this time the agreement will be a lasting one.
