Dutch coastguard charters fast crew supplier

The Royal Netherlands Coast Guard's portfolio of tasks has expanded in recent years, meaning that a fast crew supply vessel (FCS 5009) from the Damen Shipyard Group will be added to its fleet in mid-2026. The "Enforcer" - a so-called Fast Crew Supplier - is intended to ensure the continuity of general coastguard duties in the North Sea.

The Rijksrederij, which manages and charters vessels for government organisations - such as customs, coastguards, ministries and waterway authorities - and makes them available to its customers with crew, has therefore issued instructions for the chartering of the vessel. The "Enforcer" remains the property of the international towing and salvage company Multraship, which is therefore also responsible for the crew and maintenance of the vessel. Multraship already supplies the Rijksrederij with three emergency towing vessels.

Thanks to the "Axe Bow" developed by the Damen Shipyards Group and Delft University of Technology, the ship can reach a top speed of 27 knots (around 50 km/h). In addition, the "Enforcer" has two high-speed boats for inspections and enforcement measures at sea. The ship is also equipped with a towing system and a fire extinguishing system.

The Coast Guard exercises operational command over the ship. This modern vessel will maintain surveillance and assistance capabilities and contribute to safety in the North Sea. The "Enforcer" is needed to bridge the gap until the delivery of the new generation of patrol boats, which are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028.
