On 2 March 2026, French President Emmanuel Macron presented a further development of the French nuclear strategy on Île Longue, the central base of the French sea-based nuclear forces. The speech marks a conceptual expansion of the previously primarily nationally understood deterrence towards a more European-framed approach, which Macron describes as „dissuasion avancée“.
