On Wednesday, 7 September 2022 at 10 a.m., the frigate "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" left Wilhelmshaven to take part in a permanent NATO fleet formation.
"We were already part of the Very High Readiness Task Force (VJTF) for almost two months in the spring of this year and are now, after a short summer break, returning to the NATO organisation before continuing seamlessly with national exercises from mid-October," says frigate captain Hendrik Wißler (42). The commander of the ship continues: "The crew and I are therefore looking forward to the reunion with our NATO allies and are confidently embarking on another intensive deployment and training voyage in the name of national and alliance defence."
For this NATO mission, the ship is sailing with a total crew of 190 men and women. In addition to the regular crew, the unit will be supported by a helicopter component from Naval Air Wing 5 in Nordholz. Two MK 88A Sea Lynx helicopters will be on board. The frigate "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" is expected back in Wilhelmshaven in November 2022.
