Fifth floating LNG terminal planned

According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, a further specialised ship for receiving and converting liquefied gas is to be stationed in Wilhelmshaven - it would be the fifth in Germany. The floating terminal is scheduled to go into operation in winter 2023. At the same time, the possibility of landing "green" hydrogen is to be created. According to the ministry, the ship, which has already been chartered for a period of five years, has a capacity of at least five billion cubic metres per year. The owner, the US company Excelerate, is to operate the ship together with a consortium consisting of Tree Energy Solutions (TES), Eon Green Gas and Engie.

First floating ammonia storage and regasification plant

In Japan, a consortium consisting of shipping companies, shipyards and the classification society ClassNK wants to develop the world's first floating storage and regasification plant for ammonia. Specifically, this involves the construction of a barge that can be positioned off the coast to avoid the problems of a fixed plant on land in densely populated areas. The basic idea is that the liquefied ammonia delivered by ship is initially stored on board and only regasified by heating when required and then transported by pipeline to the consumers on land. The barge solution also offers the advantage of shorter construction times and lower costs compared to land-based plants. In Japan, it is expected that this will promote the intended use of ammonia as an environmentally friendly fuel.
