According to press reports, the German Naval Yards shipyard, also known for many years as Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH, from whose surface shipbuilding company it originated, will present a new corvette design next week at the upcoming SMM 2022 (short for Schiff-Maschine-Meerestechnik), the "world's leading trade fair for the maritime industry" in Hamburg.
SEAGUARD 96, a 96 metre long, 2,000 tonne displacement "high-end corvette" for all areas of maritime operations, was developed in collaboration with sister shipyard CMN in Cherbourg (Construction Mécaniques de Normandie, cmn-group.com). The latest generation of command and weapon deployment systems, 3D radar and the entire range of effectors should make it configurable to meet all requirements.
The hull is narrow for good seaworthiness and low energy consumption. The surface ship and superstructure have low reflective surfaces due to the integrated main mast and flush side walls. The stern offers space for a helicopter and hangar.
