Two documentary series accompany the German Navy on NATO missions and in everyday life on the high seas.
Cable One promises in October with the documentary project "Our Bundeswehr", a "unique access to all branches of the armed forces", but as it now turns out, the look behind the scenes of the armed forces is not as unique as expected. Because even DMAX is planning from 15 October with "The navy - Our life at sea" is a similar documentary format. Every Saturday from 21:15, the Discovery channel goes on board three warships and shows the German navy on its NATO missions between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
The three ships "Sachsen", "Nordrhein-Westfalen" and "Bonn" are stationed in their home port of Wilhelmshaven, but set sail for different destinations. The audience gets to see the "Sachsen" as it sets off for the NATO manoeuvre "Northern Viking", which is taking place in the North Atlantic and where other nations such as the USA, France, Great Britain, Norway, Portugal and Iceland are rehearsing the emergency. Meanwhile, the "Bonn", a supply ship with 7,900 tonnes of cargo, is on its way to Greece. There, the supply ship is supporting the NATO organisation at its external borders and supplying it with ammunition, weapons, fuel and provisions. The frigate "Nordrhein-Westfalen" sets off from Wilhelmshaven with Scotland as its destination. On the way there, the crew trains for the tough everyday life on the high seas.
