Greeting from the Chairman of the Naval Officers' Association

We can only do justice to the future by looking ahead. However, this does not mean forgetting or diminishing the achievements of the past that we have grown fond of.

In 1973, the DMI was launched as a sister organisation of the Naval Officers' Association. Just one year later, the "MOV-Nachrichten" (MOV News), which had previously been exclusively internal to the association, was expanded to include general naval topics, including security policy, and was also offered to the public in a new format as the bound magazine "MarineForum". At the same time, the MOV retained ownership, but the DMI was appointed publisher in accordance with the Press Act.

MarineForum is now a unique, established trade journal in Germany with the aim of addressing all maritime safety-related topics. Thanks to the driving force of the DMI, we are now taking a further, more contemporary approach to external presentation within the network of our associations. In addition to the bound edition, the MarineForum-Online (MFO) will be available from January 2021. I congratulate the DMI as publisher on this bold step, as the new format will bundle the maritime message with images, reports and podcasts while incorporating the social media landscape. In other words, it will very much depend on the willingness of all maritime enthusiasts to get involved. Have the courage to get involved!
