Iranian Revolutionary Guards: New helicopter carrier put into service

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards officially put their new "helicopter carrier" into service in Bandar Abbas at the beginning of the week and named it after their leader, Major General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in an American drone attack in January 2020 and was also given the honourable title of "martyr".

Powerhouse

The catamaran, which was designed entirely by the Iranian government, is classified as a "frigate" (FS 313-01), although its dimensions are quite compact with a length of just 50 to 60 metres (estimated), which is typical for a boat. With four propulsion units manufactured in Iran, it is well motorised for high or long voyages. As far as armament is concerned, the "Shahid Soleimani" is equipped with everything you need to command respect, apart from large artillery calibres! Six sea target FKs (2 x 90 km, 4 x 300 km), six land target cruise FKs (330 nm/500 km) and 8/16 anti-aircraft FKs (30 to 150 km) in vertical launchers.

In addition, four automatic 20 mm machine guns and a semi-automatic 30 mm cannon (optically controlled), plus two chaff/flare launchers and a spacious helicopter landing deck (helos and drones), including speedboats that can be deployed from the rear. With its air defence capabilities, this "Patrol Combat Vehicle" can provide the Iranian speedboats with the protective shield they have lacked until now. Tailor-made for marginal sea operations!

And otherwise

During the commissioning ceremony, which was probably attended by all the top ranks of the Revolutionary Guards, two other boats were also handed over: the high-speed and missile attack boats "Shahid Rouhi" (P 313 11, Thondor mod) and "Shahid Dara" (P 313 6).
