Handover of the second Sa'ar 6 corvette to Israel

The Israeli navy has gained a modern corvette. The second Sa'ar 6 class corvette was christened today, 4 April, at Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) in Kiel. In the presence of the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Jeremy Issacharoff, his wife Laura Kam Issacharoff christened the ship with the name Oz. TKMS Managing Director Rolf Wirtz then officially handed over the new building to the Israeli navy. Due to the pandemic, the setting for the event was festive but small.
The contract for the delivery of four corvettes of this type was signed in May 2015. Following the design phase, the construction phase began with the firing launch ceremony for the type ship in February 2018. The ship was undocked just 15 months later. In May 2019, the INS Stomach in Kiel and was handed over in November 2020. The next two ships in the series are scheduled for delivery in 2021. TKMS is handing over the corvettes without sensors and effectors. These will be installed in Israel itself. Until the Oz It will therefore be some time before we actually go into active service.
The corvettes are around 90 metres long and displace around 1900 tonnes.
