After Singapore unveiled its autonomous MARSEC platform for controlling the waterways off the coast of the city state earlier this year, the island state of Taiwan, which is threatened by mainland China, has now also made its unmanned combat system for the defence of the Taiwan Strait and national waters public. Similar to the Magura drones successfully deployed by Ukraine against Russian ships of all sizes, the "Endeavor Manta" manufactured by Taiwan's China Shipbuilding Corporation (CSBC Corp.) is now intended to expand the defence spectrum of the Taiwanese navy in a cost-effective and personnel-friendly manner. The explosive charge integrated into a trimaran hull made of fibreglass-reinforced plastics leaves room for a few light torpedoes on the sides of the hull. The Manta is flat-built and difficult to locate, fast and manoeuvrable at over 35 knots with two outboards, just over 8 metres long and weighing only 5 tonnes - so it can also be transported on land and launched from any slipway. A control station guides the swarm of up to 50 "Mantas" by satellite or relay drone. On-board, AI-supported target recognition and a self-destruct fuse in the event of hijacking make these drones autonomous even in the event of malfunction or loss of control. Everything needed for this is manufactured in Taiwan.
