Change of command during major tasks

On 5 September, Captain Carsten Holtgreve handed over command of Naval Air Wing 5 to Frigate Captain Thorsten Werning. The mechanical engineer, who once began his career as a technical officer for the Tornado, had four years of responsibility in turbulent times, not only due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During his time in office, the Seaking MK 41 was decommissioned and the NTH 90 Sea Lion was brought to operational readiness. The introduction of this weapon system was associated with considerable teething troubles, which the commander of the naval aviation command, Captain Broder Nielsen, denounced in his laudatory speech with the words "this must never happen again". It was thanks to Commodore Carsten Holtgreve and his fantastic team that the company is now confidently looking ahead to the next major launch of a weapon system: the Sea Tiger. His successor, Thorsten Werning, began his career on the Seaking Mk 41 in Kiel, has already been Commander of the Flying Group in Nordholz and is returning from several years abroad in the USA and France. Captain Carsten Holtgreve will now remain with the organisation as Chief of Staff. He succeeds Captain Holger Schmitt, who has led the Naval Aviation Command through eventful times during his five years in office. In view of the introduction of several new weapon systems, first and foremost the Boeing P 8 "Poseidon", which is expected this year, times in Nordholz are not getting any quieter.
