The US State Department has approved the sale of six additional P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to India. The transaction could take place as part of a foreign military sale and would be worth 2.4 billion dollars. In addition to the actual aircraft from the manufacturer Boeing, these costs also include associated equipment.
India ordered eight P-8Is back in 2009, and a further four were added in 2016. If the new purchase were to be carried out by the country, India would have 18 of the high-quality aircraft. According to the Americans, the sale is intended to emphasise the partnership with the ally and improve the country's security.
