NATO Baltic Sea manoeuvres: Special forces train against sabotage

The exercises took place near Klaipėda, a Lithuanian port city with around 150,000 inhabitants located less than 100 kilometres from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. The highlight of the manoeuvres was a scenario designed to demonstrate the operational readiness of the special forces in maritime battles. Details of the exercise content were not published.
There are also initiatives at national level to secure critical infrastructure. Estonia has recently taken measures to protect its submarine cables in order to minimise the maritime safety in the Baltic Sea. You can find out more in our article about Estonia's measures to protect submarine cables.

The commander of the US Naval Special Warfare Group 2 emphasised the importance of such exercises:
"This training demonstrates the determination of the US Armed Forces and makes our special forces a formidable deterrent for those who want to test America's military capabilities."
Such joint manoeuvre are crucial in order to smooth co-operation between NATO partners and to be prepared for possible threats.
