Recently, a delegation led by the Commodore of MFG3 "Graf Zeppelin", Captain Oliver Ottmüller, visited Squadron Number 5 of the New Zealand Air Force in Ohakea.
As part of the exchange for the introduction and especially the operation of the new P-8A Poseidon aircraft, the naval aviators from Nordholz are establishing contacts with the various operating nations. For example, there is an intensive exchange with the American Navy, as well as with Norway and Great Britain. A year ago, a delegation from New Zealand travelled all the way to Germany to provide the naval aviators with information and assistance for their first steps with the Poseidon.
This open, constructive and friendly exchange was reciprocated this year by two visits from the naval aviators to "the other side of the world". On site, the German delegation was able to experience operations in the squadron and take helpful information with them on their return journey through intensive dialogue. "The exchange with our New Zealand friends is extremely valuable, as we benefit directly from the experience gained during their introduction a few years ago," says the Commodore of MFG3. A personal exchange directly on site always helps. At the end of the trip, the intention was confirmed with representatives of the air force staff there to continue the good cooperation in the coming year and, in addition to the exchange of information, to also endeavour to send personnel to the squadron there. The naval aviators are expecting the first Boeing 737 aircraft in the military version of the P-8A Poseidon next year. In addition to Germany, the USA, Norway, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and India are currently operating this modern maritime patrol aircraft.
