FFG - Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH takes over GEKE Schutztechnik GmbH

Although FFG is located directly on the banks of the Flensburg Fjord, it is not known for maritime solutions, but rather as a system house for armoured tracked and wheeled vehicles. The Flensburg-based company has taken over the German company GEKE Schutztechnik GmbH. An entry point for solutions for the navy too?
GEKE Schutztechnik, based in Lichtenau, is a provider of military protection technology solutions. From its base in North Rhine-Westphalia, GEKE has developed in recent years into a globally active company for the design, production and supply of modular armour and protective equipment. GEKE has many patents that will improve the protection of soldiers, large defence equipment and platforms. The products include interior fragmentation protection, roof protection systems and mine and side protection solutions as well as highly effective Add-on Armour against Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), kinetic energy (KE) or shaped charge threats. Other core competences of GEKE are prototype construction, testing, production and technical support. GEKE products are used in the Leopard 1 and 2 main battle tanks, the Puma and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, the 2000 self-propelled howitzer, the GTK Boxer, the Fennek reconnaissance vehicle, the Dingo 2 and the M113.
For the navy, GEKE has modular composite technologies and ballistic protection solutions in its range: for example, ship's command and ammunition compartments and bulkheads could be effectively protected - with comparatively significant weight savings.
The integration of GEKE into the FFG Group is in line with the company's strategy of offering the armed forces integrated design solutions and comprehensive service.

FFG has only acquired a majority stake (51%) in GEKE Schutztechnik GmbH. 49% of the shares are still held by GEKE Technologie GmbH in Freiburg, which together with GEKE Engineering GmbH & Co. KG, is the owner of various industrial property rights in defence technology.
