As TKMS announced in a press release on 30.01.26, the Norwegian government placed an order for two more submarines of the class 212CD to TKMS. This increases the planned number of submarines for the Royal Norwegian Navy from four to a total of six.

Germany also ordered four additional option boats in December 2024, bringing the German total to six 212CD submarines increases. The joint German-Norwegian programme will thus reach its maximum planned order volume of twelve submarines.

CEO Oliver Burkhard emphasises the high strategic importance of the programme for European defence capabilities and the close partnership between Germany and Norway.

The class 212CD is considered the most modern conventional submarine in the world - with improved situational awareness capabilities, increased networkability and even lower signature. The cooperative programme also brings benefits in research, development, training, logistics and maintenance as well as cost efficiency for both countries and their industries.
