Peter Tamm receives the Bundeswehr Cross of Honour

The Federal Minister of Defence, Christine Lambrecht, awards Peter Tamm the Bundeswehr Cross of Honour for his commitment to the Bundeswehr base in Hamburg.

The award ceremony took place on 17 September 2022 on board the frigate BAYERN.

On the occasion of the reception for the 833rd Hamburg Harbour Birthday on board the frigate BAYERN, Captain Michael Giss, Commander of the Hamburg State Command, awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honour in bronze to Peter Tamm on behalf of the Federal Minister of Defence, Christine Lambrecht. The publisher, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the Hamburg International Maritime Museum Foundation has long been committed to promoting dialogue between the armed forces and civil society beyond the city limits at various levels.

Peter Tamm was a conscript in the navy, completed a service information event at the Mürwik Naval Academy in 2022 with the provisional rank of first lieutenant at sea and maintains close contact with "his" branch of the armed forces. He is the publisher of Mittler-Report-Verlag, which publishes the marine forum and, together with the German Maritime Institute, sponsor of marineforum.online.

The Bundeswehr Decoration of Honour was established in 1980 to honour exemplary performance of military duty. It is one of the highest military honours. Only around one per cent of the Crosses of Honour awarded each year are awarded to civilians. It may only be awarded in agreement with the Head of the Office of the Federal President.
