Persian Gulf - Denmark raises security level for Danish ships

Due to the escalating situation in the Middle East, Denmark has raised the security level for Danish ships in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and parts of the Gulf of Oman to MARSEC 3 - the highest level.
Vessels must implement additional protective measures and expect interference with GNSS and AIS signals. Suspicious observations should be reported in accordance with the BMP and the SSAS should be activated in the event of imminent danger.
This is due to increasing tensions in the Middle East, increased military activity and the risk to civilian shipping. MARSEC 3 temporarily requires additional, specific protective measures. The new assessment replaces the previous classification on MARSEC 2 of 28 February 2026.

The affected area is north of 24°00’ N and west of 61°40’ E; ports outside Iran remain in MARSEC 1. There is also an increased risk of GNSS and AIS interference in the region, which is why the implementation of the Best Management Practices (BMP) is recommended. Suspicious incidents should be reported to the CSO, MAS, UKMTO or MSCIO. In the event of immediate danger, the SSAS and to activate an emergency call via DSC to be cancelled. The Danish ISPS Coordination Authority is continuing to monitor the situation and will adjust the security level again if necessary.
