Under the name "Plectrum", the designers at the Italian Lazzarini Design Studio in Rome have presented the concept for a spectacular hydrofoil superyacht with hydrogen propulsion, which is designed to glide across the water in the utmost luxury at around 75 knots (140 km/h). However, they have also set a financial framework of 80 million euros - it could become more expensive if we don't act soon!
But Pierpaolo Lazzarini and his team don't think about saving money when designing their objects: With a length of around 75 metres, the "Plectrum" - once built - would actually be the largest hydrofoil boat in the world. The width varies depending on the position of the foils, which make the boat 15 metres wide when retracted at slow speed and when docking in the harbour, and take up a good 20 metres of space when extended to take up the hovering speed, but also allow higher speeds than displacement boats are physically capable of.

The designers based the boat's special hull shape on the designs of the sailing boats competing in this year's Prada Cup, the qualifying race for the 2023 America's Cup. The carbon fibre hull promises high strength and low weight. According to the design team, three hydrogen-powered engines with around 5000 hp each, totalling 11,000 kilowatts, will make the yacht float.
Helicopter, motor yacht and supercar
According to the design concept, the superyacht has four storeys with space for an owner's suite, six guest cabins and a swimming pool. Under the foredeck in the bow, a helicopter is housed in a retractable hangar, the parking position of which becomes the landing deck. There are two dinghies in the centre of the hull, which can be extended and lowered into the water via side hatches. A super-class vehicle and various water toys in the hidden garage at the rear of the yacht provide mobility away from the wings.

Reality or fiction
As the oligarch sector is currently somewhat weakened, it is still uncertain whether the boat can be realised at all. Nevertheless, the Lazzarini design team is busy creating further spectacular designs for all kinds of mobile and immobile luxury products, such as cars, boats and floating residential units.
