On Thursday, 30 September 2021 at 10 a.m.will be on board the Frigate "Brandenburg" the commander of the 2nd Frigate Squadron, Captain Christian Scherrer (47), handed over command of the ship from Frigate Captain Jan Hackstein (47) to his successor, Frigate Captain Andreas Scheiba (43).

Frigate Captain Hackstein was in command of the Frigate "Brandenburg" in March 2018. "I've spent 43 months in command of the most beautiful ship in the fleet - a wonderful time and it's hard to say goodbye. The conditions were very challenging and the pandemic was just one of many problems. Nevertheless, with a great deal of effort, we as a crew managed to fulfil our respective missions. That fills me with pride," says the outgoing Commander Scherrer. In future, he will be working in the Federal Ministry of Defence as a consultant in the policy department.

His successor, frigate captain Andreas Scheiba, is moving from the Bundeswehr Planning Office to head the "Red Eagle". "I am looking forward to the upcoming, challenging and certainly formative time as commander of a Frigate of the German Navyas this assignment is always the crowning glory of a naval officer's career. For me, the assignment as commander fulfils a dream that I have been pursuing since I joined the Navy. And that it is possible for me to take over the frigate 'Brandenburg', a unit on which I have already served before and with which I
I still feel deeply connected to. For me, this is an unexpected 'icing on the cake' and makes me look forward to the upcoming assignment with great pleasure," says the future commander with a view to the time ahead.
