Rheinmetall takes over Berka GmbH

Rheinmetall acquires company specialising in the storage and delaboration of ammunition

Rheinmetall has announced the acquisition of Muni Berka GmbH, a Dietersdorf/Saxony-Anhalt-based specialist in the field of ammunition storage and handling. The aim of the takeover, which has now been contractually agreed, is to increase the Group's own storage capacities. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The transaction is still subject to the usual official approvals. In addition to Dietersdorf, Muni Berka also has a site in Ochtrup (North Rhine-Westphalia).

With this acquisition, the Group is significantly increasing its storage capacity for raw materials such as explosives, but also for projectiles, detonators, primers and propellant modules (all together "Full Shot"). With this acquisition, Rheinmetall is now in a position to permanently store more than 1 million 155mm projectiles or 500,000 155mm full shots. This increase is particularly necessary in connection with the new Lower Saxony plant at the Unterlüß site, where up to 350,000 artillery shells are to be produced per year in the future. The strategic intention is also to be able to fulfil Germany's supply security requirements by means of domestic value creation.

With Ochtrup as a major site in North Rhine-Westphalia and a further plant in Germany, the acquired Muni Berka sites fit seamlessly into Rheinmetall's production network. Even production from Spain can be stored here. Since the acquisition of Expal Munitions in August 2023, Rheinmetall now has seven operational sites here. Rheinmetall plans to produce up to around 1.5 million artillery shells per year by 2030.
