Anyone who had breakfast on the dune in Heligoland this morning could enjoy a rare sight: the Rising Sunone of the most famous mega yachts in the world, built by Lürssen, is anchored here for a few days.
Something is being tested here, but what exactly remains unclear. One thing is certain, however: with the swell today, the wine cellar on board is likely to get a lot of movement - and that is why she is anchored here.
The 138-metre yacht, designed by the legendary Jon Bannenberg, was once owned by Oracle founder Larry Ellison and now belongs to music mogul David Geffen. With 12,230 hp, 28 knots and a basketball court that doubles as a helipad, the Rising Sun not only floating luxury, but also an engineering masterpiece.
Technology check:
The Rising Sun was built in 2004 at the Fr. Lürssen shipyard and has four MTU 20V8000 M90 diesel engines with a total output of 36,000 kW (48,600 hp). She reaches a maximum speed of 28 knots.
The yacht is equipped with a soot particle filter to reduce emissions. In addition, a specially coated glass façade significantly reduces the load on the air conditioning system and thus saves energy during operation.
With over 80 rooms on five decks, including a cinema, a wine cellar, fitness and recreation areas and a helipad/basketball court, she offers more than 8,000 m² of living and usable space. There is space for 18 guests and 45 crew members.
