Rolls-Royce launches three new mtu NautIQ products

Important contribution to safety, efficiency and climate protection targets. Rolls-Royce is expanding its mtu NautIQ marine automation portfolio with three new products:

mtu NautIQ CoPilot, mtu NautIQ CoOperate and mtu NautIQ CoDirect each offer different options for intelligent crew support, autonomous control and remote operation. For customers from all areas of shipping, they bring significant benefits in terms of safety and efficiency as well as environmental and climate friendliness. The new products are the next step in the collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Sea Machines Robotics, the developer of autonomous steering and remote control systems for ships, which was first announced at the Monaco Yacht Show in September 2021. The further development of the mtu NautIQ product range is part of Rolls-Royce's strategy.

Depending on the operating mode, the system can steer a journey autonomously from start to finish, while the captain is only in charge. Alternatively, the intelligent assistance system can also be switched to a so-called guide mode, in which it deliberately does not intervene in the steering, but provides the skipper with important information and warns of collisions or dangers. The system enables more precise and predictable navigation and helps to reduce costs, fuel consumption and emissions. It is therefore an important step towards climate-friendly ship operation. This is made possible by the combination of digital ship sensors, electronic nautical charts embedded in the system, advanced artificial intelligence and one of the world's most modern computer vision systems, which processes and analyses images captured by cameras.

mtu NautIQ CoOperate is an optional autonomous ship navigation and command system that enables remote control of ships, including all equipment on board (such as cranes). mtu NautIQ CoDirect is a wireless remote control system that can control a ship's engines, steering and gearbox, as well as onboard machinery such as winches and cranes, from a distance of up to 1,000 metres. This allows the ship's crew to operate the vessel from the best vantage point, increasing safety and efficiency. For example, a tugboat captain can leave the wheelhouse and manoeuvre his vessel from a location with better visibility.
