Swedish Navy: Rheinmetall announces in a press release that Sweden will be its first NATO customer for the light naval gun "Seasnake"
Sweden, NATO's newest member, has placed an order with Rheinmetall for the delivery of eight Seasnake 30 weapon systems for the Swedish Navy. The systems will form the main armament of the new fast patrol boats (Combat Boat 90). The first call-off from the underlying framework contract has a volume of around 63 million euros and was concluded in February 2026. Delivery of the first system is scheduled for February 2028. The framework agreement also includes airburst ammunition and training ammunition in 30 mm calibre and has a term of four years in this area. Spare parts and services are also part of the agreement. The contract also includes an option for up to 29 additional Seasnake weapon systems.
The Seasnake 30 is a remote-controlled light naval gun of the latest generation and is used for close-range defence. In addition to the weapon, the system includes modern daylight cameras, infrared sensors and a laser rangefinder. It has automatic target recognition and the ability to track several targets simultaneously. The nominal maximum rate of fire of the revolver cannon is 1,100 rounds per minute. Thanks to the integrated airburst capability, the Seasnake 30 is particularly suitable as an effector against aerial targets, for example for defence against drones. The low silhouette and compact stealth design also only slightly increase the boats' reflective surface and therefore only slightly increase the probability of detection by enemy sensors.
