Steel construction began at the Peene shipyard site in Wolgast for the second Class 424 fleet service boat, which will be launched several months earlier than planned to replace the Bundeswehr's OSTE class in the near future. The approximately 130 metre long ships serve as reconnaissance platforms with state-of-the-art sensor technology and fulfil current military requirements. The accelerated production is being achieved through the increased involvement of the Peene shipyard and close cooperation with the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Utilisation in order to meet the current challenges.
