In 1995, the shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen (Lemwerder) and Neptun Industrie Rostock jointly founded A&R Neptun Boat Service GmbH on the site of the former Neptun naval shipyard in Gehlsdorf. At that time, around DM 23 million was invested in new halls (total area 4300 m²), workshops and an administration building. The new shipyard also received a ship lift, with which ships and yachts weighing up to 1,000 tonnes can be docked. After an initial change of ownership in 2002, further investments were made in the production facilities. In 2009, the Hamburg entrepreneur Heiner Tamsen finally took over the shipyard, which has been trading as TAMSEN MARITIM GmbH ever since.

In October 2009, Hamburg entrepreneur Heiner Tamsen, previously known for selling super sports cars, took over the shipyard. The shipyard now operates successfully as Tamsen-Maritim. The shipyard became known throughout Germany when it built the Gorch Fock training mast for the Mürwik Naval Academy in 2012, which was requested by the Defence Commissioner of the German Bundestag, Königshaus. Strategically, the TAMSEN MARITIM shipyard, which currently has around 130 employees and 18 trainees, has also recently focussed on new builds. Customs patrol boats developed in-house and workboats for the German armed forces have been built and delivered. In addition, a number of sea rescue boats were built for the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). A newly built fisheries inspection boat commissioned by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is about to be delivered. Tamsen Maritim sees itself as a long-term "reliable partner of the navy and German authorities" at the shipbuilding site in Rostock.
