After around two and a half months, the Turkish frigate Kemal rice left the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2). According to NATO, this means that only the Spanish destroyer Méndez Núñez in this group. The SNMG 2 is commanded by the Spanish flotilla admiral Manuel Aguirre Aldereguía.
For German eyes, the Kemal rice is no stranger: Although it was built by Gölcük Naval Shipyard at the end of the 1990s, the Meko-200 design was created by Blohm+Voss. Two of the Turkish ships were also built there. The last of four ships in the Barbaros-class, the Turkish Navy provided the Kemal rice into service in June 2000. With a length of 118 metres, it displaces around 3100 tonnes. Her crew consists of 180 people. The frigate is armed with two Mk 41 Mod 8 VLS launchers, from which Sea Sparrow missiles can be fired. There are also eight Harpoon anti-ship missiles and a 127-millimetre cannon on board.
