A further step in German-Norwegian co-operation
thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and the Norwegian Ulstein Verft signed a letter of intent at the Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) trade fair in Oslo to strengthen industrial cooperation in Norway. The aim is to combine the capabilities of both shipyards. The letter of intent of 26 March is an important step towards increased industrial cooperation between Germany and Norway. The agreement stipulates that if an order is awarded for the next Norwegian frigate programme, significant value creation will take place in Norway.
The signing, which took place at the thyssenkrupp Marine Systems stand, underlines the German commitment to working with Norwegian shipbuilders to ensure local expertise and commercial benefits. Joachim Wacker, Head of Product Sales & Product Strategy at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, and Lars Lühr Olsen, Managing Director of Ulstein Verft, emphasised the strategic importance of the partnership and the benefits for the Norwegian shipbuilding sector. Following the 212CD submarines, this letter of intent represents a further step in the cooperation with Norway. thyssenkrupp Marine Systems employs around 8,000 people at three shipyards in Kiel, Wismar and Itajaí (Brazil) as well as at locations worldwide. The company is a system supplier for submarines and naval surface vessels as well as for maritime electronics and safety technology. Around 3,300 employees work in Kiel, the largest shipyard site in Germany. Ulstein Verft can look back on a history of over 100 years, dating back to 1917. With extensive experience in the construction of ultra-modern and innovative ships - both newbuildings and modernisations and services - the company is one of the leading players in the industry.
