TU Delft develops environmentally friendly drone

White and blue tiles were yesterday - today it's drones. Together with Delft University of Technology, the navy and coastguard have developed an environmentally friendly drone that is particularly suitable for use from on board and over the sea. It takes off and lands almost vertically, even on small open spaces on deck, can be manoeuvred well in gusty winds and is largely seawater-resistant. During take-off, the twelve engines are powered by the on-board battery, which is then recharged in flight when the fuel cell takes over. A 6.8-litre hydrogen tank made of carbon material is pressurised to 300 bar, the device spans three metres and weighs 13 kilograms. And if one or three engines fail, it won't hurt!
