Christening of the 'INS DRAKON' and start of production of the first 'DAKAR' class submarine for the Israeli Defence Forces under strict safety precautions

The shipyard speaks of a milestone: on 12 November 2024, a festive event took place at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems in Kiel, the christening of the submarine 'INS DRAKON' and the start of production of the first submarine of the 'DAKAR' class.

The ceremony was attended by guests from Germany and Israel, including the inspector of the German Navy. The event is a further step in the cooperation between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and the Israeli Defence Forces. Oliver Burkhard, CEO of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, said: "We have a long-standing partnership with Israel based on trust and mutual respect. The christening of the 'INS DRAKON' and the start of production of the first 'DAKAR' class submarine are important milestones that underline our commitment to delivering submarines that set new technical standards worldwide." The christening of the 'INS DRAKON' represents an important milestone in the production of state-of-the-art AIP submarines. The event was not open to the public and media representatives were not admitted.
