US Coast Guard in the Black Sea

The United States has deployed a Coast Guard Cutter to the Black Sea. The USCG Hamilton is the first US Coast Guard vessel to enter the inland sea since 2008. At that time, the USCG Dallas for the second time passing through the Bosporus on its way eastwards. Last month, two US warships travelled through the Black Sea on a routine patrol. The Ticonderoga-Cruiser USS Monterey and the Arleigh-Burke-Destroyer USS Hudner were operating together with NATO partners at the time.
The Hamilton belongs to the Legend-class of the US Coast Guard and was put into service in December 2014. The 127-metre-long ship displaces around 4500 tonnes. It is crewed by 111 people. The Cutter is armed with a 57-millimetre cannon on the forecastle and other small-calibre machine guns.
