Wilhelmshaven Sailing-CUP: It's that time again!

"Moin and ahoy" is how the 1st Mayor of the City of Wilhelmshaven welcomes guests, "sight-seers" and sailors to the Wilhelmshaven Sailing CUP from 27 September to 29 September 2024.

"Who has the nose - or rather the jib boom - in front?" This question is asked every year on the last weekend in September at the 22nd edition of the Wilhelmshaven Sailing CUP. This oldest traditional sailing regatta on the German North Sea coast attracts thousands of "sight-seers" and sailing enthusiasts to Wilhelmshaven every year, as it stands for sport, entertainment, interesting encounters and maritime flair.
This year, 14 fascinating ships will once again find their way across the Jade fairway to Wilhelmshaven, creating an impressive sight at Bontekai and giving the inner harbour a special ambience for three days.

While the regatta for the coveted trophy provides a spectacle worth seeing at sea, there is a colourful hustle and bustle on land with a quayside market, food mile, stage programme and Pirate City. Onlookers and interested parties can explore the ships more closely during the Open Ship and enjoy the impressive backdrop of the sailing ships, especially in the evening hours at Bontekai. Day trips under white or colourful sails are an absolute must for all sailing enthusiasts and the sailing event offers companies and school classes from the city and country an ideal communication platform. The parade of the sailors through the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge is definitely one of the attractions of the weekend.

Perhaps before or after the top-class sailing events - Boarding Next Generation, the main regatta, accompanying regatta and Junior Sailing-CUP -, the supporting programme with live music or the harbour tours, you will invest some time to get to know the tourist highlights in the city and region. A visit to Wilhelmshaven is particularly worthwhile on the last weekend in September, but of course also on any other day of the year, according to the patron of this year's Sailing CUP, Olaf Lies from Wilhelmshaven, Minister of Economic Affairs in Lower Saxony.
