On 23 September 2021, the inspector of the MarineVice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach (56), the Fleet and support forces of the Marine from Vice Admiral Rainer Brinkmann (63) to his successor, Rear Admiral Jan Christian Kaack (58). The ceremony will take place at the Mürwik Naval Academy in Flensburg and will traditionally end with a Grand Tattoo for Vice Admiral Brinkmann. "I am grateful for the great trust that the soldiers have placed in me", summarises the outgoing Deputy Chief of Naval Operations. During his term of office, there was a far-reaching change in security policy, as a result of which it became necessary to consistently focus the Bundeswehr on national and alliance defence. At the same time and in parallel, the Marine continue to reliably fulfil their operational missions and NATO obligations. "In order to be able to cope with this variety of tasks in the long term, the Marine be adequately equipped. Many future defence projects have already been initiated. These include, for example, the regeneration of naval service boats and anti-mine units. However, the challenging future still requires an all-hands-on-deck manoeuvre. With this in mind, I wish my successor much fortune and steadfastness in order to fulfil the 'Fleet The company will continue to help shape the 'future' with its balanced and diverse portfolio of skills" concludes the Vice Admiral.

His designated successor is Rear Admiral Kaack, currently commander of NATO's Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger (Norway). He follows the call back to the Marine with pleasure: "I am very happy to be back in the bosom of the German Marine and to be able to contribute my experience to future challenges", says Rear Admiral Kaack. Jan C. Kaack is no stranger to the coast, as he was the predecessor of Flotilla Admiral Christian Bock as commander of Operational Flotilla 1. Marine challenging tasks await the future commander. "At the same time, I am very grateful and also humbled by the trust that has been placed in me. I will continue to follow the path that my predecessor took so successfully", continued the former commander of Operational Flotilla 1. It is a handover that also has something emotional about it, because both admirals have something in common: speedboats swim in their hearts. Both served as watch officers, commanders and commanders in this disbanded branch of the armed forces in their younger years.
