The fragile ecosystems in particular of the oceans suffer from the encroachment of people. Nevertheless, the this year's UN Ocean Conference only Declarations of intent.
In June 2025, the third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC-3) was held in Nice with 175 UN member states, following New York in 2017 and Lisbon in 2022. Around 60 statesmen or high-ranking members of government took part in the conference - three times as many as at UNCO-2. As at the previous conferences, Nice once again called for the global protection and sustainable use of the oceans. The central topics included
