Ready

For the first time, the US Navy handed over an aircraft carrier battle group to NATO. The alliance thus demonstrated its ability to react quickly and flexibly to challenges. In Germany, talk of naval power quickly conjures up images from the 19th and 20th centuries. Nowadays, however, the concept can no longer be limited to a large fleet and "strategic naval positions", i.e. favourably located bases overseas. What naval power actually means in the 21st century was demonstrated by NATO at the beginning of the year: the alliance carried out the Neptune Strike 2022 exercise for a fortnight. A total of 28 nations took part. The setting was the central Mediterranean...

US Coast Guard: Cruise ship travelled through Cape Canaveral security zone

Looking for spectacular events for passengers or silly oversight? The US Coast Guard has been investigating the intrusion of a cruise ship into a designated safety zone during a rocket launch near Cape Canaveral in January. The launch of a multi-million dollar satellite launch was cancelled as a result. The aborted launch for the Italian space agency was rescheduled for the next day, where it was successful. The US Coast Guard designates safety zones in the lower area and warns sailors of imminent launches from Cape Canaveral. The overflight path of each rocket launch over the Atlantic determines the location of the individual zones. The "traffic offender" was...

Littoral Combat Ship now with AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire

The AGM-114 Hellfire was originally a laser-guided air-to-ground anti-tank missile of the US Air Force. In the meantime, the 40-year-old weapon has been transformed into a short-range multi-purpose weapon with a range of 8 kilometres thanks to radar guidance, which is particularly suitable for use with drones in "fire-and-forget" mode. In the AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire version, it was successfully tested from the sea in mid-May as one of the three components of the Surface-To-Surface Missile Module (SSMM) of the American Littoral Combat Ships in land target firing. The USS Montgomery (LCS 8) fired three missiles in series at targets up to five nautical miles away on land in the Pacific region....
