Ukraine will not be able to participate in the mine clearance operation agreed between the Black Sea navies of Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria. As expected, Turkey has told its NATO allies that it will not allow the two minehunting units (M108 HMS "Grimsby" and M112 HMS "Shoreham") handed over to Ukraine by the UK to transit its waters through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits. Turkey is referring to the Montreux Convention, which regulates transit even in times of war.
