Russia continues to rejuvenate its "Kilo" fleet

The rejuvenation of the Russian Federation's conventional diesel-electric submarines is slowly nearing completion. The Kilo class (project 877/636) already comprises 24 boats with a fairly equal distribution across the three fleets, with the first boats already looking back on forty years of service. At the end of October, the "Wolkow", the second boat of the third batch (Project 636.3), a series of six units destined for the Pacific Fleet, was handed over to the Far Eastern command. The boats are being built by the United Shipbuilding Corporation, an offshoot of Admiralty Shipyards in St Petersburg. Five in one go

Splashing out instead of splashing out! On 5 November, the Bangladesh Navy commissioned five ships in one go at its Chattogram base in Chittagong. In addition to the two JIANGWEI-II class frigates (Type 053H3) taken over from China, the newbuild corvette PROTASHA of the SHADHINOTA class, which was built in Wuhan, was also given its flag, colours and banner. Shortly before Christmas, the US Navy proudly announced that a woman will take command of the aircraft carrier USS "Abraham Lincoln" next summer. Captain Amy Bauernschmidt will then command one of the Navy's eleven nuclear-powered carriers and up to 5,600 men and women. With their 85 aircraft, the 332-metre-long ships form the combat-ready backbone of the fleet. The "Abraham Lincoln"...

On the way to operational readiness

After the Breguet Atlantic was discontinued, the German Navy opted for second-hand P-3Cs from the Dutch. France, on the other hand, decided to develop its own successor, the Atlantic 2. Also known as the Atlantic Nouvelle Generation (ANG), these maritime patrol aircraft differed from their predecessors only in the details. However, after 20 years in service, the technical equipment was no longer up to date and the decision was made to upgrade in 1993. Just under two years ago, the first of the converted aircraft rejoined the fleet. On the way to their planned retirement at the end of 2021...
