Launching of the fifth boat in the Astute class

The Royal Navy's latest submarine was launched for the first time on 20 April at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. Prior to this, the 7400-tonne unit, whose keel laying was celebrated in October 2011, was pulled out of the assembly hall. In future, the nuclear-powered submarine will sail the world's oceans under the name Anson. Leonardo acquires GEM Elettronica

The Italian defence group Leonardo has acquired a 30 percent stake in the company GEM Elettronica. The company has 130 employees and develops and produces electronics for civil and military use. Applications in the defence sector include small 2D and 3D radar systems, consoles, integrated bridge systems, electro-optical fire control systems, inertial navigation systems and electronic nautical charts. Most recently, GEM was able to develop and install a helo-decking radar for the Italian Navy. According to Leonardo, the product areas of the two companies complement each other, as GEM is active in areas that are hardly ever addressed by the new shareholder. In future, synergies in the areas of development, marketing and sales are to be utilised.

Order for Patria

The Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) has awarded Patria the contract to build a Sonac ACS Acoustic Minesweeping System. It will be used to equip the country's navy. Green takes to the air

The green forces in the Netherlands are currently showing themselves to be innovative. However, it is not politicians who are involved in the power struggle, but soldiers from the Corps Mariniers, the Dutch equivalent of the German naval battalion.
