Netherlands - private security companies to protect KRITIS

The Dutch Ministry of Defence plans to recruit additional personnel and equipment from private companies to temporarily strengthen the security of its critical infrastructure (KRITIS) in its part of the North Sea. This decision is based on reports from the Dutch Military Intelligence Service (MIVD) that the North Sea infrastructure, such as gas pipelines and wind turbines, is the target of Russian sabotage activities. In April, the MIVD stated that Russia could also attempt to sabotage the numerous data hubs in the North Sea region. The Panamanian Maritime Authority had already promised the Group of Seven (G7) in October to penalise ships sanctioned by the USA, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United Nations.
