Vietnam: Strategic airfield on an atoll of the Spratly Islands

Vietnam has been adding more artificial islands since 2021. According to Radio Free Asia, the country has added more than 600 hectares of dry land around the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea in the last year alone. The largest activity took place on 'Barque Canada Reef', an atoll about 400 kilometres southwest of Spratly Island and about 630 kilometres southeast of Vietnam. The Philippine island of Palawan lies around 430 kilometres to the west. Naval aviators exchange information in New Zealand

Recently, a delegation led by the Commodore of MFG3 "Graf Zeppelin", Captain Oliver Ottmüller, visited Squadron Number 5 of the New Zealand Air Force in Ohakea. As part of the exchange on the introduction and especially the operation of the new P-8A Poseidon aircraft, the naval aviators from Nordholz are establishing contacts with the various operating nations. Dr Björn Weidemann will succeed graduate engineer Guido Gerdemann As the Hamburg-based think tank MTG Marinetechnik GmbH announced today in a press release, the industrial engineer will become the new Managing Director of MTG from February.
