Traditional sailors at the Kieler Woche

Naval units from all over the world, pleasure craft, cruise ships, regattas, celebrities from sport, politics and society: but what would Kiel Week be without traditional sailing ships? They are the true heroes of pleasure boating: owners, skippers, boat people and clubs who keep the old ships alive - and that doesn't just mean swimming - but make them accessible to the public and thus bring a bit of history into the present. It is the old traditions and craftsmanship, the passion and the stories behind old bulkheads, Hellegatts and bilges that make this historic cultural asset so fascinating. Against all odds, keeping the ships in motion...

Oslo - UECC achieves its own emissions reduction target

United European Car Carriers (UECC), an innovative Norwegian maritime transport company, has been investing in alternative fuels for years and more than doubled the use of biofuels in its fleet of ships last year. The shipping company's goal is to reduce emissions by at least 45 per cent by 2030. After all, the low-emission concepts save port fees and, as a car transporter, it would be difficult to ship e-cars across Europe without wondering whether ship propulsion with carbon-based fuels is still in keeping with the times, according to UECC. The company already received the Bremen "Green Shipping Award" in 2019 for the conversion and renewal of its fleet. The innovative installation of battery hybrid technology in...
