Dangers of a "shadow fleet"

Stakeholders from the shipping industry are expressing concern about the increasing danger posed by a growing "shadow fleet": tankers used to transport oil and oil products from countries such as Russia, Iran or Venezuela in order to circumvent sanctions. They point out that these ships sailing under flags of convenience barely meet safety standards, are often operated without adequate insurance or supervision and have minimal or no access marineforum digital+ Are you already a registered user? Crew member of the "Bonn" needs help

When the Bonn arrived, it was announced that a mate from the "Bonn" had fallen seriously ill. As reported by the Wilhelmshavener Zeitung, which exclusively accompanied the arrival with naval editor Michael Halama, the navy has already taken action. "Unfortunately, there is always unpleasant news on sea voyages," says Lieutenant Captain Daniel A., press officer of the "Bonn". DKMS (see below) knows that every twelve minutes someone in Germany receives this terrible diagnosis of blood cancer, and every 27 seconds worldwide. Many patients cannot survive without a life-saving stem cell donation.

He had previously reported the ship back to his boss after a successful mission. The atmosphere on the pier was full of anticipation before everyone was able to hug their loved ones again. After 85 days away, the guests stormed on board as soon as the Stelling was deployed. The decision had been made...

Heatwave heats up the North Sea

One of the world's most severe heatwaves is currently heating up the shallow seas around the UK. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this is a category 4 out of 5 heatwave, a categorisation rarely used outside the tropics and meaning "extreme" heat. This is probably the result of relatively stable weather with no Atlantic storms to mix the seawater. Long-term records Using satellites and measuring buoys, sea surface temperatures have been recorded for over 20 years. In some sea areas of the United Kingdom and Ireland, the water temperature in mid-June 2023 is already...
