New defence minister visits the navy

On Friday, 17 December 2021, the new Federal Minister of Defence, Christine Lambrecht, will visit the 1st Corvette Squadron in Warnemünde during the morning. During her visit to the troops, she will welcome the tender "Elbe", which is returning from a NATO mission after almost six months.

7 October 2021 marked the 450th anniversary of the naval battle of Lepanto. Long glorified as a victory of the Occident over the Orient, it was a naval battle between the Christian Mediterranean powers and the Ottoman Empire, which was triggered by the conquest of Cyprus and the execution of the last Venetian garrison commander by the Turks.
