"Only the highest standards are good enough!"

Interview with the commander of the frigate HESSEN by Holger Schlüter. There are many questions following the end of the explosive deployment of the frigate HESSEN in the Red Sea. Not all of them can be answered by the ship's commander, frigate captain Volker Kübsch, and after all, military security also demands secrecy. The German public must accept that there are limits to transparency, even for their own safety. The findings are now being extensively analysed, both technically, tactically and in terms of personnel. The man most in demand during the operation was nevertheless available to marineforum. Mr Kübsch, our deep respect for you and your crew! How many interviews have you already given...

Tender "Werra" to the NATO organisation

Tender "Werra" has left its home port of Kiel. Over the next six months, the tender, which is part of the support squadron, will provide the German contribution to one of NATO's permanent formations, the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG 1), for the North and Baltic Seas. The "Werra" will thus replace the tender "Donau", which returned home at the beginning of July, by the end of the year. For Corvette Captain Marina Diebelt (34), it is the first major voyage in her role as commander of the "Werra": "It is always a great pleasure to be able to sail in a convoy. The international co-operation is in many respects...

RIMPAC takes place every two years as a multinational manoeuvre...

The German "Seals" turn 60

Today, on 11 July 2024, the Naval Special Forces Command is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. With a roll call and a dynamic demonstration in the presence of the President of the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament, Kristina Herbst, the Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, as well as numerous guests from society, politics and the military, the combat swimmers will face the public, which does not happen that often. They have been around since 1958, when the aim was to prepare back-up for amphibious landing operations in the rear of attacking Eastern Bloc units. The combat swimmers evolved from small combat units and the naval task forces of the Second World War. The training was modelled on French elite units. In August 1959, the...
