On Friday, 14 May 2021, the ships and boats of the NATO mine countermeasures group SNMCMG 1 (Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1) moored at Warnemünde naval base. They will stay until next Monday. In addition to the German minehunting boat Sulzbach-Rosenberg, the mine defence group currently includes four other minehunting boats from Estonia, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. There is also the Belgian command and logistical support ship Godetia, the flagship of the organisation. "We've been underway since mid-April and haven't had the opportunity to get to know the ports we've visited due to the current Covid-19 situation, so being in a military harbour where we can move around freely is a great relief."...

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the so-called burning start was celebrated in a small circle at the German Naval Yards Kiel. This is actually a fairly unspectacular act in which a plasma torch cuts the first piece of steel. Despite the pandemic, the K 130 consortium (Arge K130), which consists of Fr. Lürssen Werft, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and German Naval Yards Kiel, emphasises that the project is going according to plan. The Kiel shipyard will produce another of the approximately 43 metre long front sections. At Blohm+Voss in Hamburg, the joining with the stern section will be...

Corona times friendly

Different rules obviously apply at sea: The Berlin boarding team has had positive experiences with corona. However, it was not the omnipresent virus, but a merchant ship with the contemporary name Corona J. The initially suspicious container ship was on its way from Port Said to Misurata in Libya when the crew of the German task force supply vessel approached it and asked the captain for permission to check the cargo and papers on board. After obtaining the captain's permission, the Lithuanian soldiers from the boarding team boarded the Corona J via Sea Lynx, where both sides were astonished...
