Anschütz: Autonomous "Wavelab" on the fjord

Anschütz has set up a remote control system for ships in its new control centre and successfully monitored and demonstrated the control of the motor vessel (MV) "Wavelab" in real time in the maritime test field on Kiel's inner fjord. Anschütz writes that the MS "Wavelab" is a research platform for autonomous and semi-autonomous navigation of the Clean Autonomous Public Transportation Network (CAPTN) initiative in Kiel. Access control The control centre is used to access sensors and navigation systems on board and to remotely control the ship's steering and propulsion. For this purpose, a complete digital twin was set up in the control centre and supplied with all the data collected by the existing and experimental sensors and systems on board.

Electric vehicles: underestimated fire risk at sea?

Motor vehicles are shipped across the world by sea to their eagerly awaiting customers. However, the fire on the "Fremantle Highway" now clearly shows that shipping companies and ship owners are inadequately prepared for the current battery technology - especially for electric cars - and are unable to manage the risk of fires that are difficult to control. Cause of fire The difficulty of bringing a battery fire under control was brought into the spotlight by the wrecked car transporter off the Dutch coast. Brunsbüttel: Brussels approves state aid for LNG terminal

The state development bank KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) is authorised to provide financial support to the German energy company RWE and the Dutch energy network operator Gasunie. German offshore wind industry sets an example

In June 2023, EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO) from Emden christened its latest ship, the WINDEA ONE, as the first parallel hybrid crew transfer vessel (CTV). In future, it will transport personnel and materials from Norden-Norddeich to the Borkum Riffgrund and Gode Wind wind farms (off Norderney). The offshore wind turbines will be operated by the Danish company Ørsted, which has chartered the ship from EMO on a long-term basis. International co-operation The ship was built by the Penguin Shipyard Group in Batam, Indonesia, under the name WindFlex-32 and is based on a design by the Australian engineering firm Incat-Crowther. It is already the fifth ship that the AG EMS Group, to which EMO also belongs, has commissioned...
