Will decarbonisation end the exploitation of the seabed?

Battery manufacturers urgently need cobalt, nickel and other metals to meet the growing consumer demand for electric cars. Opposition to the mining of minerals from the seabed is now growing in many places. The deep sea harbours the largest estimated mineral deposits on earth, potentially worth trillions of dollars. But in recent weeks, Chile, Fiji, Palau and other countries have called for a moratorium on deep-sea mining until there is a better understanding of the ecological consequences of destroying little-studied and unique deep-sea ecosystems that play an undetermined role in the global climate. French President Emmanuel Macron spoke out in favour of...

LUH SK: Marine favours service solution

The German Armed Forces have been planning to procure a Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) for several branches of the armed forces for several years now, which will be used in particular to train pilots between the end of their basic helicopter training and deployment on their operational helicopter such as the NH90 or the Tiger. According to the original ideas, the armed forces were to procure the same helicopter type as part of this "Light Multi-Purpose Helicopter Armed Forces" or "LUH SK" project. Apparently, however, there are now considerable doubts in the navy as to whether this is a target-orientated approach. Access marineforum digital+ Are you already a registered user? "You can rely on me!"

150 years of Flensburger Schiffbaugesellschaft: birthday on the fjord The times that lie behind FSG were often characterised by pessimism. The last few years were characterised by a mood of crisis and the traditional shipyard was on the brink of collapse on several occasions. However, the old shipyard on the fjord draws on the strength of the location, a wealth of strong staff loyalty, embedding in the society of the fjord town, opposite the Mürwik naval school, within sight of an ancient harbour. And there is that unshakeable North German mentality that bad weather should be met with appropriate clothing and that complaining is not an option. And now the...
